Meet CETA guardians

Ms. Kornthip Guyathbencharong and
Mr. Sompong Saengsirirojn

Nationality: Thai

Related experience: guardian for international students for over six years

Message to students:

We have worked with CETA as guardians for more than six years. We look after the students, both boys and girls, like our own family. We focus on their welfare and settlement. We usually give students advice straight away about what is right and wrong and especially about their friends. We have found that this is very important. All of them trust us and can tell us anything.

Orapin Borisutsawad (Ping)

Nationality: Thai

Related experience: guardian for four years

Message to students:

Being a guardian is an important job with a great deal of responsibility. I use a variety of tactics to connect with each student to make them feel comfortable with me. My aim is that they will feel like I am a family member they can trust without hesitation. This can be very challenging because each student is different. In the first few months, they may feel lonely. This is the criticial time that they really need me. I will be there to help them solve any problems related to settlement, mental well-being and their studies.

Kalapanit Tripatarasit (Em)

Nationality: Thai

Related experience: customer service

Message to students:

As a mother of two children I understand that a child requires the guidance, love and respect of a caring adult. As the guardian of an international student, I will treat your child as an individual whilst listening and providing him or her with ongoing cultural support as they settle in Australia.

Our family has a Chinese and Thai background. We shall treat any child that is placed into our care as if he/she were one of our own children. My husband and I strongly believe that open, ongoing communications, as well as respect and trust, are the basis of our relationship with your child.

Having had previous experience of studying in Australia, America and China, I can provide direct advice to your child in a new country, learning a new culture whilst studying for their bright future.

Ralated experience:

  • working as a teacher at Qingdao University of China for over ten years

  • acting as guardian for international students for two years

Accomodates students: yes

Message to students:

My name is Tim Tao and I act as a guardian for international students who study in Australia. I have a bachelor degree of Education from Shandong Normal University and a master degree of Laws from Ocean University of China. Before moving to Australia, I worked as a teacher in Qingdao University of China for over ten years, therefore I am quite familiar with students’ study and mental health. I have been married for 20 years and we have a daughter in year 7. I like communicating with people from different countries with different backgrounds.

Since arriving in Australia in 2012, we have hosted a Chinese student and I have been guardian for two students for two years. We love having extra children in our home. Now I am looking forward to being a guardian with CETA. Because of my work experience and understanding of the Australian education system, I can really help international students to adapt to the new environment and I can provide guidance for their studies and life here in Australia.
